Being a young person myself, I feel that people who are in the limelight for fashion have a high status in this world. Many young people do look up to these people and perceive a high regard for them. In this modern society, being able to look/ feel good to fit in is a major factor in influencing one's mindset about keeping up with the latest trends. Advertisements, peers, media and technology plays a huge role in this. They percieve a thinking that to feel good about one's self is dependant on one's outward appearance. That is why people who are fashionable and trendy are looked upon. This is evident in young people dressing up like fashion icons of this world.
However, it does provide social problems among the young people. A person with high status may not want to become friends with a person who is not as fashionable and trendy, and may look down on the latter. This would cause social conflicts. Keeping up with trends also provide money problems. To fit in and be likeable, young people may turn to theft to get what they want.
There is no definite answer if it is wrong to pursue such a lifestyle, because it all dwells down to one's financial means and mindset.
